See Yourself Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the legislative process, held each spring during the legislative session for women who think they might want to run for state-level office. This seminar was originated by the 50-50 in 2020 organization several years ago, along with other encouraging and informational events to promote women serving in government.
The League of Women Voters of Iowa now has responsibility for the planning and execution of this one and one-half day event, being held this year April 7 (afternoon and evening) and April 8 (all day).
Registrants meet with legislative leaders, nonpartisan legislative staff, Capitol press, lobbyists, and women legislators (current and former) during this opportunity for “demystification” of the legislative process. See Yourself Here registration is required along with a nominal fee of $40 for the Tuesday evening meal and the materials.

A See Yourself Here flyer with a registration button will soon be sent to all League members, as well as placed on our website here and on our Facebook pages. We aren’t at 50% gender equity in the Iowa Legislature yet, though we have been moving in that direction. In the words of former LWVIA President Mary Rae Bragg of Dubuque, “And don’t let anyone tell you gender doesn’t matter. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that issues inherently important to women are going to be given more attention when their voices are being heard in the assembly. Or, as my favorite t-shirt says: ‘If you aren’t at the table, you’re on the menu!’”
